In January 2023 The Mwamlima family moved from Victoria to Edmonton in hopes of a fresh start after having their children, Joy and Eli, removed from their care by the MCFD for more than a year. What began as a suspicion and investigation into possible child abuse against Eli was finally stopped in court as the Ministry had no basis nor proof of any kind that any abuse had ever occurred. The family always suspected that there had to be a logical explanation for Eli’s medical woes, but they could not find any medical professionals in Victoria who were willing to help them pursue further medical testing.
However, since moving to Edmonton they found an incredible paediatrician who wanted to get to the bottom of Eli’s constant medical problems.
Eli has had a number of blood tests done and sadly a few days ago Eli was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
It’s been a huge shock for Robyn and David but at the same time they feel validated that the concerns that they’ve had over the past years were finally taken seriously by an incredible medical team.
In the next 10 days Eli will undergo daily chemotherapy treatments with the majority done via a picc line and some done via spinal tap in his back.
The Mwamlima’s have a long road ahead and right now they’re just taking it one day at a time. The first 6 months will be filled with daily/weekly hospital visits for treatment. After the 6 months, it’s around 2.5 years of ‘maintenance’ which is monthly check ups and medication adjustments.
The Mwamlima’s would appreciate all the prayers for Eli as well as for Joy as she is struggling to navigate this new lifestyle as well.
Any financial donation to help support Robyn and David for either of them to stay at home to care for Eli would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your help,
Hannah
