This page is established in the name of Elijah Sims, a loving and hardworking 16-year-old, who was tragically murdered on August 29th while visiting with family and friends in the Austin community two days before his 17th birthday.
Suburban Unity Alliance based in the Oak Park, Illinois community is joined by Sharita Galloway, the mother of Elijah Sims in establishing this page. The money that we seek to raise will serve as a reward to be offered to anyone that provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of Elijah’s killer or killers. The Oak Park and Austin communities continue to mourn, as we have lost one of our own. As the Oak Park and Austin communities build bridges in efforts to eliminate the violence that has wreaked havoc on so many families, we are asking for your support. The loss of Elijah has impacted both communities and we refuse to let his death be in vain.
It has been six months since the loss of Elijah and while the Chicago Police Department is working diligently to bring Elijah’s killer/killers to justice, they cannot effectively do their job without community support. The code of silence and fear, leads many individuals with valuable information to not cooperate with investigators. It is our hope that with every dollar donated, our communities will gain the ability to support the police department’s efforts in reaching justice.
We believe these funds are the only thing that will help encourage someone with information to step forward. As fights are not mutually exclusive, we hope and pray that as you read this, you recognize that what happened to Elijah is not a singular experience. This could happen to your brother, your sister, your parent. If we can’t work as communities to protect our community members and bring justice to those in need, then why are we here?
