A RaRe Opportunity to GIVE!!!
My family and I recently returned from a six month journey to the motherland. Yes!! You read that right; Jijiga, Ethiopia, to be exact!! The memories are still vivid, and the stories will be passed down for generations to come. We got the immersion experience but this time it was our language, our culture and our people.
We stayed with family and I can’t express how much they gave to us. See, they weren’t the richest family on the block. In fact, almost every day, my children’s grandmother had to pump a day or two’s water supply for nearly 20 household members. The home has no running water. Talk about strength! My children and I are forever indebted to this family as they taught us humility, gratitude, simplicity, contentment and hospitality at its core.
I can’t help but feel the great need to give back. The family has debt, some much needed home repairs/upgrades, medical expenses, and the need to put aside savings for those rainy days. I would be honored to raise money for them so that they could live a little more comfortably and worry less about finances. MaashaaAllah some of the children now attend one of the best international schools in the area and we are hoping next year that the rest of the children will be able to join as well (7 children total). However, this is another expense that requires financial support.
Here is where you come in! Whatever you can give today, small or large, you will see the fruits of it in this world and the next. Don’t think twice as Allah’s promise is true; that when you spend in His cause, He will multiply your reward. With Ramadan around the corner, I encourage you to refresh the habit of giving in the cause of Allah. I close with an ayah from the Quran:
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” (2:261)
