Piyalli relatives!
We are fundraising to get electricity for 10 Native Matagalpan families in the Pueblo Indigena de La Laguna San Ramon, Nicaragua by selling these beautiful hats made by @poncesolo x @indigenous1492 !
The funds will be used to pay half of the expenses needed to get the poles & wiring set up & the rest of the costs will be covered by another collective we are working with.
These families have been forced for years to rely on fire wood as a source of heat/cooking & during the intense rainy season this can be very difficult to balance with childcare, especially for the abuelas.
Not to mention in this time of crisis & strife throughout the country any help to our indigenous relatives of Nicananahuac is GREATLY appreciated.
This community also serves as a spiritual/cultural center for many Nicaraguan youth & the support of electricity will help many of efforts.
To think that $500 can drastically change the lives of 10 families (15+ children) for the next 20 years is a humbling thought & makes me think about how Urban Indigenous Communities can support are relatives who still live in the jungles & mountains of our beautiful homelands.
My name is Geraldo (Jerry) Icaza, I am a 25 yr old Nicaraguan American organizer based out of Oakland CA. My indigenous lineage comes from my mother who is of the Nahua people of Carazo Nicaragua. I work with the Cooperativa Agropecuaria de Servicios Tonantzin Tlalli R.L. & various communities in Nicaragua on cultural preservation/revival.
Tlazocamati ica mopalehui ihuan mocahui!
Thank you for your support & time!
Ma mitzteochihua Cihuacoatl!
May the Serpent Woman bless you!
