Electric wheelchair for Molly

Donation protected

At the age of 2, Molly Collins was diagnosed with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. She is now 10 years old and is a beautiful, bright, funny, quick-witted and loving little girl who dreams of being an actress one day.

Molly had SDR spinal surgery in 2015 in America. She and our family were so overwhelmed by the help we received from friends and people locally in the town to pay for the surgery. The operation was a success; it has reduced her muscle tightness and pain significantly but sadly, didn’t help her to walk. She did experience though the feeling of standing on her own two feet independently.

Since then, Molly has grown up and developed other dreams too. She is a mature, sociable and creative child who now wishes to prioritise being independent over the long and difficult life of constant physiotherapy. She wants to whizz around the playground keeping up with her friends, moving around without the gruelling hard work of walking aids and without reliance on someone pushing her. This is why we are focusing our efforts on getting her an electric wheelchair to give her the independence she deserves.

The manual wheelchairs provided by the NHS are too heavy for Molly to be able to self-propel. Her arms ache and tire after a few minutes meaning she is reliant on others to push her.

Molly recently had an assessment for a custom-made wheelchair. The RGK electric wheelchair will give Molly the independence she longs for and allow her to be a child with the freedom to move when she wants by herself. RGK have quoted £7,746 for the wheelchair.
