Elective Nursing Placement in Vietnam

 I am currently studying paediatric nursing at the University of Nottingham. Next July I am going to be heading out to Vietnam to volunteer in a hospital as part of my training, to experience the demands of a country that is without the health care equipment and facilities that we have here in the UK provided by the NHS.  After spending a lot of time as a child in hospital due to complications with having Type 1 Diabetes nursing is the most fulfilling and rewarding career and i am so excited to continue my studies and push myself to be the best nurse I possibly can once I qualify. The reason I want to complete my elective placement abroad is so that I can research into the topic of communication within an acute healthcare setting. Now with people from all cultural backgrounds and walks of life walking through the hospital doors, being aware of and able to communicate with your patients and patients parents and carers is a crucial skill to have. I am hoping my research will influence other students to want to complete their elective placement abroad to also improve upon their communication skills and take a step out of their comfort zone to build on their confidence in their nursing practice.  The money raised will go towards travel and accommodation expenses for the 4 weeks I will be there. As due to the demands of the course i am unable to raise most of the funds myself.  We don't get any financial help from the NHS or university to help towards our elective placement which is also why I am asking for donations.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated and I hope the time I spend out their will contribute to the lives of those requiring medical care in a less privileged setting.
