Meet Bill and Arhelia Brown. Their story hits so close to home. We are ourselves, a series of bad events away from being in their position.
Bill and Arhelia lived in Concord, CA until 2014 when their landlord skyrocketed their rent, resulting in them living out of their van. In February 2016 Bill became ill and was admitted to my hospital. After his release, he discovered that his van...his home, was no longer running. Since February, this couple have been spending what meager income they have from SSI on motels. When their funds run out for the month, they go back to their van in our parking lot. He is 64, she is 70...he is disabled and walks with a walker, she is the sweetest lady I've ever met.
Long story short...we are raising funds to repair their HOME. How this has gone on for so long and their vehicle was never towed, is nothing short of a miracle. On December 5 we were able to gain permission from them to initiate repairs. This is a photo of us we took as their van was being towed to the mechanic. We placed them in a motel until their van is repaired and gave them cash to eat a local resturant for the next 2 days.
I know I am surrounded by the most kind-hearted, giving, selfless people anyone could ever ask for. I'm asking for help to raise funds to help this couple.
Estimated costs are: $200 motel fees, $150 cash given for food, mechanic so far $2000, tires (2 are flat, 1 is a spare and the other is on its way out..) $300, smog and registration (2 years expired) $500. These are estimations thus far. Any money left at the end will be given to them in the form of gas and grocery gift cards.
