Hello, my name is Melissa and I want to help my parents, but due to my own battles with fibromyalgia I lack the financial capability to support them. I hope with your help, I will be able to help them gain justice.
Help My Parents Reclaim Peace and Justice in Their Own Home
A peaceful retirement turned into daily distress
My parents, Elaine and Andy, are kind, hardworking people who’ve spent their lives building a quiet, comfortable home together. Now in retirement and semi-retirement, they should be enjoying calm days and restful nights. Instead, their home life has become a constant source of stress, anxiety, and disruption.
What’s happening
Elaine and Andy live in a leasehold property, which means they own the internal home but not the external structure or the business premises below. The landlords are responsible for managing the downstairs unit, currently rented to a café business.
Since this café opened, my parents’ peace has been repeatedly disturbed by noise, odour pollution, and unauthorised works that breach both the 1990 leasehold covenants and environmental health standards.
For months, my parents have endured:
- Late-night construction and DIY work, often continuing well past 10PM - 12am.
- Constant noise and vibrations from machinery, extractor fan and side window installed without consent.
- Oil leaks onto their roof and side passage from the café’s extractor system.
- Intimidating and disrespectful behaviour from members of the café’s staff.
Although the external flue has now been removed, the café staff continues to taunt and distress my parents by carrying out loud work at unsociable hours, ignoring every polite request to respect their home and health.
The human cost
This situation has taken a severe toll.
My mum, Elaine, is recovering from cancer treatment and is receiving support from talking therapies, and my stepdad, Andy, is awaiting major heart surgery. The continuous disturbance, stress, and lack of sleep have worsened their anxiety and affected their health at a time when they should be focusing on recovery and rest.
Despite repeated communication with the landlords and local authorities, that sent out warning letters to the cafe, though nothing has been done to protect my parents. The landlords and business owners seem to ignore their duty of care, leaving my parents trapped in what feels like mental torture in their own home.
Why We’re Asking for £5,000
We’re aiming to raise £5,000 to cover the legal and professional costs needed to help Elaine and Andy reclaim peace and justice in their own home. This will fund solicitor appointments, environmental and property inspections, and potential court fees to hold the landlords and café accountable for repeated breaches of their lease and the distress they’ve caused. Every contribution no matter the size, will go directly toward protecting their health, safety, and right to live peacefully in the home they’ve worked for all their lives. Your support will give them the strength and resources to finally be heard and taken seriously.
Why your support matters
Elaine and Andy have always been independent, private people, the kind who would never ask for help unless absolutely necessary. But they’ve reached breaking point.
They have been failed by the system meant to protect them, and now need the help of kind-hearted people to fight back, restore their peace, and hold those responsible accountable.
Your donation will not only help them cover legal costs, but will also send a message that no one should have to suffer harassment, pollution, or stress in their own home.
If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this campaign to raise awareness and help them get the justice and peace they deserve.
Thank you for your kindness and support,
Melissa (Concerned daughter)
on behalf of Elaine & Andy
