From the minute Warren and I got married we dreamt of holding a beautiful baby in our arms. We were blessed and I got pregnant right away. That day I understood unconditional love because as soon as I found out I was pregnant I loved the baby growing inside of me. Our joy did not last long and we had the first of seven miscarriages. We shed many tears in our dream of being parents but we never lost hope. Thanks to the prayers of family and friends we remained strong in our goal of bringing a baby to this world and in August 2011 we were blessed with the birth of our amazing son Josué.
Soon after Josué was born and while I was still recuperating from the C-section, Warren came to me and told me he, you know our family is not completed yet. He told me that he felt strongly we needed to adopt a baby and I agreed with him. We have been trying to adopt since 2009 (even prior to Josué’s birth) and the road has been difficult and emotional. We had some difficult experiences in our adoption journey so last year I told my husband I did not know if I could go through one more disappointment so when we moved to Alaska we did not enroll in any agency. The feelings about adoption and the love for the unknown baby were so strong that no matter how afraid we were, we kept talking about adoption.
In mid August 2014 while talking to a friend at church about my feelings on adoption she shared with me the two wonderful experiences her two sisters-in-law had with adoption. I asked for their numbers and as soon as I got home I called them and asked them about the process. Their adoption was private and it was expensive but I just could not stop thinking about it. That night my husband and I prayed about it and decided that we would try it one more time. By mid September we had completed all the paperwork and we were waiting to see what the next step was. On September 22nd, only about a month after that conversation, we received notice that we had been matched and the baby girl was due in December 2014 – very soon. We signed the contract and sent the money we had saved to our lawyer the next day.
The moment I read those words about the baby girl match I felt love, excitement, and gratitude. I felt love for the birth parents and for that sweet baby that will come to our home soon. We are blessed to have an open adoption because our sweet baby will be loved by two families.
A private adoption is expensive and that is the reason we have decided to do a fundraiser. So far we have spent $21,000 between home study, background check, and adoption fees. We still have about $25,000 in adoption expenses between lawyer fees in two states, court fees, travel for the three of us from Alaska and lodging while away.
We only have two months to gather the rest of the money so any pennies you can contribute will help us bring that beautiful baby home. Please share this link with your friends and help us achieve our dream.
Thank you for taking the time to read and for your support.
Love,
Warren, Marta, and Josué
