Eilidh's Buggy

Donation protected
Nine years ago, our good friends, Heather and Alan MacBeth were blessed with their third child, Eilidh, a little girl to join two big brothers.

Beautiful Eilidh was born with a very rare (4 in a million) genetic condition, Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome (RTS). RTS impacts Eilidh's development in many ways, meaning over the years she has had a lot of input from various health professionals. The rarity of RTS means that most professionals know little or nothing about the condition, so all are on a learning curve together. Heather and Alan could only get expert help when the leading expert on RTS travelled from mainland Europe to England for a conference and the MacBeths were able to meet him.

Although Eilidh has Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome, it in no way defines who she is. She is non-verbal, and although Alan and Heather hope one day she will learn to speak, they are able to communicate with her using some Makaton signing and PODD (an aided language display used at home and school), and she understands much of what is said to her. She enjoys going to school and is very popular with staff and her peers. Eilidh has global developmental delay but she doesn't let that prevent her from trying new things and she is constantly surprising & delighting her family with some new-found skill! According to Eilidh’s mom:

“We're so blessed to have Eilidh in our lives, she's an absolute joy to have around and her 2 older brothers adore her. We're lucky and thankful that she is a healthy, happy, smiley wee girl, who brings sunshine into everyone's life who meets her.”

Eilidh needs a buggy:

Although Eilidh can walk relatively well, she tires quite easily and often has a ‘sit down’ protest. She usually needs to be carried at some point on a walk. The MacBeth family enjoys the outdoors and the countryside, whether it be the park, the beach, woodlands or the hills and mountains. It is so important for them as a family to do activities that are healthy and fun for all 3 children. Up until the last year or so, Eilidh has taken part in such outings being carried by her dad in the back carrier.  At 9 years old she has now become too big for even her strong dad to carry for more than short stints. Eilidh’s current buggy is not “fit for purpose” and the MacBeths have had to stop taking family trips and doing the kind of treks that benefit Eilidh and her two older brothers.

The Delichon Delta buggy that is ideal for Eilidh is a prohibitive £2500, so up to now buying one has simply been a dream for the MacBeths. Eilidh does love to walk and be in among the family, holding their hands, but she has limited stamina and loves the security of her buggy to climb into when she’s tired, hungry, or it just all gets a bit too much. Her current buggy is really designed for an older toddler, and for very simple walks. The Delichon would be perfect.

If you are able and inclined, all donations are very appreciated. I’ve attached the information about the Delichon Delta Buggy so you can see the product. I’ve also displayed a photo of the adorable Eilidh MacBeth – she is 100 percent cuteness, and her smile is pure joy. Let’s get this little one the buggy she needs to ensure her quality of life!
