Eid al-Adha Appeal: Help Ebrima Feed His Family

Donación protegida
Hello, my name is Batuhan, and I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my friend Ebrima, a brave and determined young man from The Gambia, West Africa.

Here is Ebrima’s story:
My name is Ebrima, and I live in The Gambia with my five younger siblings. In 2021, my life changed forever when I lost both of my parents in a tragic car accident. That same year, two of my younger brothers also passed away from meningitis. One was just 16, the other 19.

In a very short time, I went from being a son and brother to the sole caretaker and provider for my family. Since then, I’ve been doing everything I can to support my siblings.
I had to drop out of school and have not had the chance to attend college or gain any formal training. Opportunities here are limited, and even when I find work, the pay is too little to meet our basic needs.

Still, I continue forward with faith and hope every day. I am sharing this story with the hope that kind-hearted people can support us. Any donation will go a long way, whether with food, shelter, or even to start something small that can bring lasting change to our lives.

Ebrima has a dream of Self-Reliance
Ebrima recently shared an idea with me that could be a turning point. Not just for his family, but for his whole community.

His grandmother owns a small piece of land, about 20x20 meters. Ebrima wants to turn it into a working vegetable garden. With it, he could feed his siblings, sell produce to others in the village, and start building a stable future. It’s not a dream for luxury. It’s a plan for food, for independence, for survival and for a way to give back.

He would need tools, seeds, a fence to protect the crops, and eventually a water borehole and solar panels to irrigate it sustainably. He even thought of building a small storehouse to keep supplies and harvests safe. But every big vision starts small.

We are starting with a goal of €200, just enough to begin working the land, buying a few tools, some seeds, and preparing the soil.

That first step means everything.

The ultimate goal is €3.600, which would allow him to build the entire garden from the ground up. Here’s what it would cover:

  • Fence ≈ €500 - basic wire or wood to protect the 20x20m plot from animals
  • Water borehole ≈ €1.200, includes digging and a small pump, which is critical due to the lack of good water supply.
  • Solar setup ≈ €800, to power the water pump and a few lights
  • Garden tools ≈ €200, essentials like hoes, buckets, shovels, and watering cans for him and his siblings
  • Fertilizer: €200, to improve soil and improve crop yields
  • Seeds ≈ €200, for vegetables like tomatoes, okra, onions, and peppers
  • Small storage shed ≈ €500, made with local materials to store tools, seeds, and harvests

I know times are difficult for many, but if you’re able to donate, even €5, it goes directly to someone who’s working to build something lasting. And if you can’t donate, simply sharing this with others or making dua for Ebrima and his siblings means more than you know.

This Eid al-Adha, let’s support someone who’s not asking for charity, but for a chance to grow. Thank you from the heart.
