Support Salem's Family in Gaza Crisis
Donation protected
This is Salem Abu Amra. His family lives in Deir Al-Balah, in the center of Gaza. He is the primary caregiver for his family of 5, who provides for his aging parents and makes sure his extended family has daily food, water, and shelter. Before the war, Salem was an accountant and ran several businesses in Gaza selling fresh produce, worked construction, owned a car, ran his household's affairs, and studied English in hopes of traveling abroad someday to pursue his dreams of studying business. Now, his days are spent securing clean water and foraging for food for his family and helping them stay alive. His mom has heart problems and needs surgery. Their family home was partially destroyed, and he is in the process of rebuilding their roof to protect everyone from the cold rains. Due to the blockade, the cost of everything has skyrocketed.
My name is Laura Pinho. I live in Los Angeles, California. I am the grant writer for A Just Peace, a grant funded in 2025 by the United Methodist Church that seeks to amplify Palestinian voices and works here in the U.S. to advocate for Palestinian rights through monthly education, action and fundraising events at my church (Chatsworth West UMC). I met Salem through mutual friends on Facebook and donated to him through a prior fundraising account that was helping his family. He contacted me within a week of my donation through Messenger to thank me for my donation and let me know he received the funds, showing me (thru video) the roof he was able to buy supplies for with the donation money I sent. I keep in regular contact with him now and will wire whatever funds collected here to his bank account (through Western Union) to help his family survive this incredibly devastating time. I can also verify that he is using funds donated for their intended purpose, and can send anyone who donates that verification, upon request.
