My dearest friends and family,
For those of you who know me well, know that hairdressing has been my passion since I was just 15 years old. The very core of what I love to do is to help people feel really great about themselves. Its this deep passion that gets me out of bed each day and knowing if I can help just one person, my day is complete.
Growing up in South Africa, at a very young age before my hairdressing career, I would hold school classes in my bedroom for the younger, less fortunate kids that I knew didn't have a fair chance to be educated. I loved nothing more than to give these kids a chance to learn what I learned in my class that day.
Although my career has taken off in ways I would only dream about back then, teaching has always stayed in my heart as a secret passion of mine so when I heard about an organization called Hair Aid Inc, a company dedicated to teaching hair cutting skills to people living in critical poverty, naturally and without hesitation, I reached out to them.
Hair Aid Inc, is a non profit organization based in Australia, that sends hairdressers from around the world to countries like Manila, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia to work directly with people living in critical poverty to teach them hair cutting skills. Hair Aid works with the poorest of families, mostly survivors of sex trafficking, so they can learn the skills required to increase their livelihood which then allows them to earn the money to feed, clothe and house themselves and their children.
Hair Aid has trained more than 4,400 people with great success.
On August 30th, I will be joining Selina Tomasiach of Hair Aid Inc, and their team of volunteer hair stylists from all over the world, for my very first teaching experience in Indonesia
I'm currently seeking your donations to support me on this very exciting and important journey, one that sits very close to my heart.
All proceeds will go towards my airfare to and from Indonesia, ground transportation to and from the airports, shared accommodation in a secure and safe area, recourse purchases, project insurance, personal medical insurance, admin and logistic costs (translator costs, government paperwork requirements, project facilitator and manager, costs, graduation certificates, location costs etc) plus Hair Aid T-shirts and Caps.
During the 5 day course, students will be learning how to cut hair and will be doing between 4-6 haircuts each day on their own. On our last day we all attend a graduation ceremony where each student will receive a graduation certificate and hair cutting tool box to get them started with their own micro business in their community right away.
Any donation big or small will be graciously accepted and everything raised over my asking amount will be directly donated to the Hair Aid Inc, fund for future trips.
