Mommas in N. Ethiopia

The courageous mommas of the mountain villages around Dessie, Ethiopia are my heros! They are learning midwifery skills from the Because Every Mother Matters team. The team brings birthing kits, support the women and children's development centers, and checks on the 90 moms currently in their sponsorship program. Their struggle out of poverty is consuming, hard work, but these mommas now have dignity, hope, and improved health! Now they have something to sell at the market and can feed their own children. Now the children can go to school instead of begging on the street. Now delivering a baby is not a mystery or the death sentence it once was for them.
My desire is to bring 50 Days For Girls kits (many thanks to some wonderful ladies at my church!). This equipment will enable girls to stay in school and on the job- keeping them out of poverty and their children our of the orphange.
Currently there are 5 Million orphans in Ethiopia, and in some areas 4 out of 11 mommas die in childbirth. I want to be part of the the next team to go to make a dent in those numbers.
