Help Acapulco Families Rebuild Their Roofs
Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Flor Martinez Zaragoza, I am in California, and I am someone in contact with families that were directly impacted by Hurricane Otis on Oct 25th in Acapulco, Mexico. My relationship with these families comes from being put in contact with them by their family members who live here in the U.S.
I have a nonprofit organization here in CA, but since this happened in Mexico, and being a DACA recipient, I’m not allowed to travel freely to Mexico to help. But that won’t stop us from helping.
On October 25th, Acapulco, Mexico underwent a level 5 hurricane Otis, that destroyed thousands of homes and businesses with its massive impact, killing many, and leaving many families devastated and with destroyed homes. For almost 4 weeks now, residents have been looking for ways to rebuild their homes and feed their families after the hurricane's impact left them vulnerable and many jobs were lost from the destroyed businesses. The time for our collective support for Acapulco is now.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been working out logistics with Sergio Emilio Monleon, a chef from the Bay Area who is currently in Acapulco feeding families warm meals through World Central Kitchen. Since we will be sending these funds to Mexico, we will be depositing the funds from this GFM account into Sergio’s account. Sergio and I are working to create a smooth distribution of supplies and help organize locals to rebuild roofs for the most vulnerable families impacted by the hurricane. It is expected to rain in Acapulco this week so we are trying to move quickly. The funds will be used to purchase roofing supplies, water, food, clothing, hygiene supplies, medicines, and other urgent needs.
We have made this GoFundMe to ask you to join us in making a difference for the resilient community of Acapulco, which is still facing various challenges due to Hurricane Otis. This fundraiser aims to contribute to the urgent needs, restoration, and upliftment of local families in Acapulco.
Together, we can help families in Acapulco, demonstrating the power of compassion and solidarity from communities in the U.S.
Let's come together to restore hope in Acapulco.
Share this fundraiser with your friends, family, and networks to amplify our collective impact. Thank you for being a part of this meaningful journey.
Also, I’d like to say this. For the past weeks, I have been observing the loud silence around Acapulco. It’s alarming how quiet the media is on Hurricane Otis, a “natural disaster” of that magnitude is something we should all be concerned about. Given hurricanes come from warm waters and the ocean observes 90% of the climate warming. This could happen to anyone, Acapulco residents were not prepared for this, as a matter of fact the weather broadcast was saying it was going to be a level 1 tropical storm, but within hours it became a level 5 hurricane, destroying everything in its way, killing many and leaving many to rebuild their homes and lives. We must see ourselves in this impacted community because we never know where these “natural disasters” will strike next.
