Help Support Woody’s Recovery
Hello friends and family,
I’m writing today in hopes of helping my parents with some of the burdens that come with long hospital stays. This fundraiser is simply to help offset the expenses of food, gas, and basic needs for my mom while she stays by my dad’s side — and to help with travel once he transitions to rehab.
Most of you may not know the situation they’ve found themselves in, so I want to share a bit of their story.
My dad, William “Woody” Woods, fell in his yard on October 1st and suffered breaks to C1 and C2 in his neck. In most cases, my dad wouldn’t still be here with us today, but by the grace of God, he’s still fighting. He was airlifted from Natchez to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he remains in the Neuro ICU.
He was placed on a ventilator to help with breathing and to keep him sedated for safety. On October 6th, he underwent a four-hour surgery to place rods and screws in his neck. Even with the clean break to C2, he miraculously has little to no spinal cord damage and is able to move his arms and legs — truly a blessing.
Just this past Friday, doctors began to wean him off the ventilator, thinking a tracheotomy might be needed, but he surprised everyone — breathing on his own and proving once again how strong he is.
My dad is a fighter, but he still has a long road ahead — several weeks in the hospital and months of rehab to follow. My mom refuses to leave his side, and after 62 years of marriage, who could blame her?
I’m simply hoping to ease some of her financial stress so she can focus on what matters most — being there with him every step of the way.
Thank you all for listening, for your prayers, and for any support you can give.
God bless you all.
