I know our struggle is small potatoes compared to some of the other godundmes here. Plus, I absolutely hate having to write this and understand that it's not anyones responsibility. However, I would like to break the stigma of infertility by sharing our story and asking for others to help in sharing this story!
My wife Elizabeth and I received devastating news along our journey to start a family. After years of trying, we have explored options from homeopathic to modern medicine, only to be diagnosed with "Unexplained Infertility."
Elizabeth and I are both high school teachers in Flagstaff, AZ. Even though our medical insurance is good, it doesn't cover anything related to fertility and family planning. This has resulted in Elizabeth and me spending a large amount of our savings attempting IUI, with no luck.
The last resort chance, suggested by our doctor, is IVF. Although there is no guarantee of success, I hope to give Elizabeth the chance to be a mother through this process. While the statistics are not great, they are better than what we have tried so far.
The downside to the process is the prohibitive cost. We understand that children are expensive, but it is rare that a single one-time cost for a child hits the same rate as a one-time cost of IVF.
One complete cycle of IVF (medication, operation, Dr. visits) in Arizona is around $12,000. At this point, we are at a standstill, emotionally drained with the ups and downs, and clinging to a small emergency budget.
I want to help raise a productive member of society and give Elizabeth the opportunity to be a mother. At this point, the only scenario that gives us a glimmer of hope is the IVF process. We are asking for help along this process in any way people see fit.
The funds generated through this gofundme would be used to help us offset the cost of a single trial of IVF.
