On Thursday, June 28th, Harrison, Bennett and Colin Spencer of Fairfield, CT lost their mother, Brenna Marie LaPort Spencer, who died unexpectedly at her home in Bridgeport, CT at the age of 49. The boys are devastated as their mom had recently moved back to the area from Adams, MA and was very active in, and enjoying the opportunities to participate with the boys in their lives on a daily basis, and they will remember her profound love and enthusiasm as an essential part of their lives.

Brenna's was a dynamic and beautiful soul, and she filled many people's lives with her love, friendship, attention and spirit. She made deep and lasting impressions on everyone she met, and her family has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of sympathy coming from friends all over the world.

Brenna was an engaging and involved member of the community through her volunteer work with local Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops of which her sons were members. She was active in local outreach programs including Welcome Club, Operation Hope and the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. She was an enthusiastic parent-volunteer in her sons’ schools and the parish of St. Paul’s in Fairfield and served as Secretary on the Board of the St. Paul’s nursery school. She regularly fundraised for the American Cancer Society, Jimmy Fund and most fondly for the St. Paul’s Boys & Girls Choir in Fairfield, which all of her sons sang in from a young age. Her enthusiasm for the Choir brought her to Europe, most recently in 2016, to hear them sing in cathedrals across England.

Brenna was a terrific mom and challenged her sons to do their best in everything they do, but loved that each of her boys developed their own identities and interests, praising her oldest Harrison’s accomplishments in Scouting, scholastics and skiing, Bennett’s intellect, musicality and lacrosse skills, and youngest son Colin’s bright mind, engaging personality and newfound passion for golf.
In the Fall, Harrison Spencer will be going into his second year at Hobart College in Geneva NY, and Bennett will be a junior while Colin will be a sophomore at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Given their ages and the loving support and encouragement their mom provided to them throughout their lives to work hard in school and distinguish themselves academically the family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her sons for educational purposes.

Your support for the boys' education will ensure that Brenna's hopes for her sons' continuing efforts will be met with the resources to achieve her goals and to foster in her children the value of contribution and involvement. If possible, any remaining funds after educational needs are met will be used to help establish a memorial scholarship in Brenna's name for seniors at Fairfield Ludlowe High School who are applying to college from single-parent households who express need and have distinguished themselves academically and musically.
For those wishing to contribute to the boys' college expenses, please do so here. If you have any pictures of Brenna (or her boys!) that you'd like to share so that all can enjoy them, please feel free! This page will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
