Dearest Parents,
I don't know about you, but after 4 weeks with my children at home, I have even MORE respect, admiration and appreciation for our Edgewater Apple Montessori teachers. I see what they have to deal with day in and day out with our children's quirks, misbehavior and tantrums. And I see how much work it is to keep them motivated, happy and learning.
If I'm being honest, I am failing miserably at home-schooling while trying to work. But part of me feels relieved that these teachers kept our children on such an advanced learning track, so maybe we can give in to more screen time these days. While my kids are pretty crazy at home, I know they are better able to stick to a routine and schedule because of the diligence and hard work of the teachers all these years. And when I lose it and yell at my kids, I see just how hard it must be for the teachers to keep our children in line without raising their voices, threatening to take away toys or TV time and always with the utmost professionalism but above all - with patience and care. The more I fail, the more I realize the hard work, love, grace and patience that went into our teachers' beautiful relationships with our children.
For those of you who are able to zoom with the teachers, you may have noticed that most assistant and daycare teachers are missing. It is my understanding that unfortunately they had to be laid off given the circumstances. And while they may be collecting unemployment, after some research I understand that to be a fraction of their regular salary, which they rely on for rent, mortgage, food, bills, family care, etc.
May 5th is National Teacher Appreciation Day!! Would you join me in appreciating and honoring our teachers? Would you join me in helping them through a difficult time?
Please think about every time they gave our kid extra attention to solve a problem, helped them make up with a friend, called us just to tell us good news, or called us concerned about our kids, fed them when we know our kids can damn well feed themselves, wiped their snotty noses, washed their germy hands, patted them to sleep, kissed their boo boo's, held their little hands, calmed their little nerves, wiped their poopy butts, gave them an extra long hug because we had to leave them crying, or just hugged them just because.
For all they do professionally and out of the kindness of their heart, can you help me raise $5000 or more for Ms. Rodriguez, Saldago, Weinstein, Jaikissoon, Gonzalez, Pino, Uka, Rogers, Suarez, Granja, Sady, Stewart, Romero, Lopez. I don't even know if that's the complete list, but that's a lot of teachers!!
And can you all text me an iphone video of you and your children thanking ALL of the teachers and staff? My cell is [phone redacted]... I'll compile a video for them all for Teacher Appreciation Day. Please send by 5/1.
Thank you!!
