Eddie Punch's EU Election Campaign Fundraiser

Hi, I’m Eddie Punch, the Independent candidate for Ireland South in the upcoming European elections on June 7th. I represent the people of Ireland who work hard, pay for everything and aren’t being heard.

Membership of the European Union has been fantastic for Ireland but in recent years, our MEPs haven’t been listening and have shifted to representing NGO agendas and party politics rather than the needs and interests of the Irish people.

Right now, the focus is on climate change but I believe that we need to give equal priority to food security and energy security. Our farmers do a fantastic job in providing EU citizens with a rich variety of healthy, nutritious food and they want to do so in the most sustainable manner possible and I want to ensure that continues. Unfortunately, Brussels has lost touch with people on the ground, including our farmers, and I want to fix this.

I want to see the potential for all our regions in Ireland to develop on an equal footing, in terms of better modern transport options, economic development and a return to community values. I want to support tourism in the regions and recognise the need to support small businesses including hospitality. There’s more to Ireland than Dublin.

I believe we need a coherent plan to fix our immigration system in a manner which is based on rational planning; fair to all countries, all regions and all people and which does not result in people sleeping in tents.

Finally, I believe we need to stand by all citizens who have disability issues or mental health challenges. I want to see a society in which everyone has the opportunity to live their best life possible, all of their lives and one which properly recognises the immense contribution made by carers.
