ECOHAB, in partnership with nonprofits Long Way Home and Team Up, is building a sustainable classroom in a rural Guatemalan village, near San Juan Comalapa, to address severe shortages of educational infrastructure. This unique classroom design is adapted to the local environment with passive temperature control and utilizes local, natural, and repurposed materials.
We need your help affording a solar-powered electrical system and rainwater harvesting system. Your donations will help support vital resources towards Guatemalan's independence from the existing unreliable electric & water municipal infrastructure. In addition, these efforts will be an everlasting inspiration & education to the local children and families.
This community of mainly Indigenous Kaqchikel, families faces high rates of poverty, low literacy, limited school completion (especially for girls), and lack of clean water or sanitation. Only a small fraction of Indigenous children finish high school, and many children work agricultural fields instead of attending school full-time.
I'm Philip Basehart, and I'm excited to share how we can make a difference together through ECOHAB. This organization is dedicated to creating sustainable and self-reliant buildings that brings security and stability to people's lives. By utilizing local and repurposed materials, ECOHAB builds sustainable homes, classrooms, and community centers that are adapted to each unique community & environment.
Our efforts involve:
- Constructing buildings that incorporate solar electricity and water catchment systems, ensuring families have reliable resources.
- Providing education and training for local communities, equipping them with the skills to create their own sustainable structures.
Join us in making a lasting impact. Every contribution counts, and together we can help strengthen communities with the tools they need for a brighter, self-sufficient future!
