Echlas' trip to Europe

As-Salamu Aleikum,

I need to change the atmosphere!

When we feel the need to change the setting for a while and breathe fresh air, we say in Arabic “tghir jaww” which translates to “change the atmosphere”.

Life has become increasingly hard during the last 1.5 years. Especially in my situation, surviving and resisting the occupation takes a lot of energy.

That’s why I have decided to travel to Europe again to take a break from the difficult time we are experiencing here in Palestine. My plan is to travel to Germany, Italy and Spain to visit friends and hold educational events talking about my homeland and my life living in a wheelchair in Al-Azzah refugee camp in Bethlehem.

To be able to make this trip happen, I need some financial support, to help with costs like getting to the airport in Jordan, flight and train tickets, food and living costs. I would appreciate any amount you can contribute. If everything goes to plan, I’m aiming to travel around mid March.

For those of you who don’t know me yet:

I am Echlas Al-Azzah, I live in the Azzah refugee camp in Bethlehem. I was born with muscular atrophy as the daughter of Palestinian refugees and have spent my entire life in a wheelchair. In order to maintain my independence and live on my own, I run a project to receive volunteers from all over the world to live with me and assist me in exchange for Arabic lessons and a unique insight into our life in Palestine.
