ECCA Volunteer Fire Fighters
Donation protected
The Mesquite Heat Fire has devastated more than 11,000 rural acres outside Abilene, TX. Resources from area Volunteer Fire Departments are low or depleted. ECCA VFD covers 86 sq miles-- about 1,100 households -- between View and Tuscola. Our 1980 pumper truck needs major work while we raise funds for a new replacement. Three brush trucks and a tanker have taken a beating with 24-hour use in horrendous terrain and relentless fire. Eight tires were lost in the fire -- about $1,000 each. Hoses have burned, ripped, or leaked. Filters have had to be replaced due to dust and ash. One truck caught fire and had to be towed out for repair. Batteries in another truck got ruined by heat. Diesel costs for fighting this fire are unreal, as we all know how fuel costs have spiked recently. We have been blessed to receive more than 2,400 volunteer hours in the past six days, with an outpouring of food, water, and love from the community. Now we need funds to repair our fleet and equipment to be prepared for the next disaster, whether it's responding to a medical emergency, auto accident, or another fire. Please help us recover as we help our community recover. No amount is too small to make a difference. Thank you.
