Easter Milking Goat Fundraiser for Community

Dear Barnardsville Community. My land mate Amanda lost a goat the other night, a good milking goat in a very unfortunate middle of the night accident involving a standard hay feedbag getting tangled around the goats head. Tragedy and not one you can see coming. We took care of the body that night, keeping the hide and meat as we could.

The long and the short of it is that my landmates only recently moved onto the land, and we are all working to establish a small homestead that includes income for Amanda with one of her life’s passions, animal care.

Amanda could use another goat and I am reaching out to try to fundraise for that. There are already those of us who have appreciated the goat milk and the goats are doing a great job keeping down pasture and cavorting as they are wont to do.

We need a good, easy-milking preferably Nubian goat, Amanda uses her animals to teach adults and children regularly about animal care so it’s worth investing in an animal who will be gentle and amenable to milking and handling.

In addition to a goat, we could use a better feeding situation to keep hay from getting messy on the ground but have it accessible for the animals – not a net bag this time that can get tangled. That means a little bit more expense unless someone has a feeding system available they could donate.

The land we share is adjacent to SunSong, an existing community space that many of you know. Together, the contiguous gardens and pasture create a hamlet scale land that we are collectively developing as neighbors over time to serve food production and ecological generation. The goats and agriculture are a core part of this.

The cost of a good, easy-milking Nubian could vary. Any amount would be helpful. This fund will be dedicated exclusively to funding a goat and, if necessary, a better stationary feeding system for the animals. Any additional would be used to fund the farming startup and continue developing this out into a sustainable family-scale buisiness that can continue to provide into the future.
