For the last four years, I have had the opportunity to provide meals for families in need during Fasika (Easter) in Tigray, Ethiopia. In anticipation of Easter, people in Tigray fast for 55 days and eat only vegan food. On the day of Fasika, people break their fast with a traditional meal called dorho sebhi (chicken stew). However, many families do not have the means to prepare this traditional meal.
Last year, I was fortunate to be able to provide food for 40 families in need. This year, it is my goal to support 1,000 families and for the first time ever, I am seeking help from friends, family, and anyone who is willing to support my efforts. This year is quite different than the last four and the people of Tigray need our help now more than ever.
In November of 2020, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia declared war upon the region of Tigray. Thousands of civilians have been reported killed and millions more have been forced from their homes. It is currently estimated that nearly 5-10 thousand women have been sexually assaulted and/or raped, children have been forcibly separated from their parents, and cultural & religious sites have been intentionally targeted and destroyed. Currently, the UN estimates that over 4.5 million people are in desperate need of emergency food aid in Tigray, 2.3 million of which are children and hundreds of thousands facing immediate risk of starvation.
By providing these families meals, I strive to offer hope; I want to remind the honest and hardworking people of Tigray that the world has not forgotten them in their struggle for justice, security, and dignity.
Any donation, no matter how small, is guaranteed to make a difference. Your kindness, generosity, and shared faith in humanity is appreciated beyond words.
Thank you & God Bless
