Hello all who are reading this! My name is Jordyn and my husband Jason and I have had the amazing blessing of getting to know some awesome kids living in our neighborhood. We met them when we purchased our home. It was bank owned, dilapidated, and sitting vacant for years. Our new project home was their playground. They played sports in the yard and even had a fort in the overgrown jungle behind the house. After we finished our home renovations we were not about to send these kids off just because we were ready to move in. We did clear the jungle (and their fort) behind the house and added a privacy fence but added a trampoline, and slack line and welcomed them to come any time they pleased. At first they were shy but it didn't take long for them to make themselves at home again and enjoy the yard and our home as their own. Now it has been amazing to also see the relationships the neighborhood kids have built with our three young kids as well, as they have helped care for and play with them during their many visits.
These kids are Earl and Amauri and their many cousins. They are mostly between the ages of 6 to 13 and they all live either in the neighborhood or in the nearby government assisted living community. Mostly all of the kids live without their father in their lives and some even without their mother. Earl and Amauri in particular live just a few houses down from us with their great grandparents Mr. Eddie and Mrs Sheila. Earl and Amauri's many cousins also spend lots of time there and stay on a regular basis. We have been blessed with the opportunity to help them with small things such as clothes for school, gear for football, and supplies for hobbies (Amauri loves making slime!). With the time we have spent with these kids we have really gotten to know more of their story and have seen their personalities. We love these kids and we want to just be there for them and help them grow in a safe, love filled place. As we've learned more about their living situation we reached out to our church a couple months ago about helping the kids and their great grandparents in a way that we couldn't do on our own.
Together with Relevant Church, friends, family, and your donations we will be going into Earl and Amauri's home on NOV. 10th to give their house some major TLC. As the home stands, it is full of clutter making all of the bedrooms inaccessible, the roof is pretty much just a tarp, the floors are damaged and uneven, there is no AC or heat, the kids sleep on sofas in the living room, their great grandparents sleep in the dinning room, several walls and ceilings need repair, the entire interior needs a big clean and fresh paint, and the house needs to be treated for lots of termites and cockroaches!
We are hoping to tackle most of these issues and furnish the bedrooms so the great grandparents and kids can have their own rooms with beds and desks for the kids. Depending on the condition of their other furniture, we might have to bring in new pieces to help rid the home of the bugs and debris. Today we ask that if you feel called to help make a difference in these kids lives please donate to this gofundme. The home renovations will start Nov. 10th. I will post updates on the home as we begin, so stay tuned to see what God does for these kids through your amazing donations! God Bless you all!
