Eagle Scout Project: Rocket Roosts
Donation protected
Greetings, my name is Gabe Zinser; I’m a 16-year-old Boy Scout currently working towards Eagle Scout. One of the final requirements that I need to complete is my Eagle Scout Service Project.
One of the ideas that my scout leaders and I considered was building bat houses or “rocket roosts” as I had learned that bat populations are in major trouble due to a disease called White-nose Syndrome. After some research, I reached out to Danielle O'Dell, an ecologist at the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, who has been studying the population of Northern long-eared Bats on Nantucket to ask if this would be a good idea. It was a resounding yes! Rocket roosts will help to provide safe summer roosting spots for maternity colonies of these endangered bats while they rear their pups.
My goal is to build five rocket roosts to donate to the Nantucket Conservation Foundation’s bat research program to aid in protecting and researching these little creatures. However, I need some help in reaching my goal! As it turns out, money doesn't grow on trees, and to fund this project I will need $2,500 for supplies and materials. Any money donated after we reach the $2,500 goal will be donated to the Conservation Foundation for maintenance of the bat houses in the future. It would be massively appreciated if I could get funding for this project. Any amount would be helpful – Thank you for your support!
