Eagle Scout Project: Permanent Benches for SSHS

Donation protected
Hello Friends and Family!

I’m very excited to announce that I’m one step away from achieving Eagle Scout! The final step to receiving this prestigious rank is completing an Eagle Scout project.
After considering many ideas, I decided to give back to my high school utilizing some skills that I’ve learned there. I attend a magnet school called Santa Susana High School and have been lucky enough to take classes like engineering and DMS (Design Manufacturing Solutions), where we learn about product design, manufacturing and business. I’ve also been able to participate in the school’s amazing music program. Any funds raised over what we need for materials for my project will be donated to the program.

The Need
On any given day during breaks and lunch, you will find Santa Susana High School students on campus sitting at the lunch tables and around the periphery of the school property. The latter areas are covered outside hallways where students sit on the ground near the classroom doors. I thought it would be nice to provide permanent seating in those areas. I presented the idea of building and installing benches to my high school administrators, and they loved the idea.

Not Another Bench Project
With the help of my troop, we will be building 10 custom designed benches that will be secured to the concrete. I designed these benches to be durable, long-lasting and to fit the area uniformly and within the school district’s guidelines. To build these benches, we will need the following materials: wood, paint, screws, anchors, chains, and locks.

Fundraising Goal
I estimate the cost of the materials to be $3000. I will be reaching out to businesses for discounts and donations. Any amount raised above and beyond the cost of the benches will be donated to Santa Susana High School’s instrumental and jazz music program. Thank you for your consideration and support!

About Me
My name is Nicolas Davalos. I’m 17 years old and I have been in scouting since I was 7 years old starting as a Tiger cub. It’s been a journey full of great adventures and memories – camping, hiking, learning life skills and bonding with scouting friends I’ll have for a lifetime (you guys are the best – thanks for always being there!)

I’m thankful for all the opportunity and skills I’ve received through scouting and especially grateful for all the adult scout leaders who have helped me through the years especially my Dad who inspired me to reach Eagle Scout like him and has been there every step of the way. He is the ultimate scouting role model to not just me but everyone who has had the pleasure to work with him.

To all the adult leaders who gave up their time and talent(s) including Mr. Ramos, Mr. Osterhaus, Mr. Suttles, Mr. Stanton, Mr. Waters, Mr. Morgan, Mr. Schecter, Mrs. Myers, and many more, I appreciate you all!

And lastly, thank you to my entire family for always being supportive – my Abuelita for always sewing on my patches; my Tia Marcia for always hooking me up with the best gear; and all my relatives who have supported me at scouting events and on fundraisers over the years. I love you all!
