Eagle Scout Project Dark Hollow Woods Bridge

Hello, I am Forrest Steele and I am a Boy Scout from troop 854 in Oakmont, PA. I am currently working on earning the rank of Eagle Scout and I would like to give back to my community by having my Eagle Scout Project in the Dark Hollow Woods in Oakmont, PA. Dark Hollow Woods is beautiful park and hallmark of my community. This park is very close to me and I have always found myself walking up there with my family or my friends.  My Eagle Scout Project focuses on replacing one of the bridges located in the northern portion of the park. This bridge seems to be in dire need of refurbishment and replacement (I have attached several images of the bridge). The bridge’s foundation seems to be deteriorating, there is no railing, some of the pieces of wood are hanging off, and overall need some repairs.

With your contributions, I will be more prepared to finish my Eagle Scout Project focused on replacing this bridge. The original footing foundation needs to be replaced because of the stream’s bank is eroding back. This project would also include adding railing, replacing the stairs with ramps, upgrading the bridge with new wood and materials, and also deconstructing the old bridge and having it properly removed. As part of my project, I am in charge of funding and providing the materials for this project as well as gathering the work force. I understand, as well as my scout leaders, that I have taken on a very ambitious project and any contribution to my project would be very generous, but also well appreciated in the community as well.  Thank you for your help!

Hello everybody, now recently there have been have concerns over COVID-19 and how my project will take place. Now, the Boy Scouts of America have begun granting extensions into projects in light of the pandemic. I will be taking part in this in order to ensure the safety of my volunteers and will begin directing work once it is safe to do so.

Hello everybody now that we have moved onto the green light we are safely continuing work on the project! June 13 marks our first work day! 

Hello everybody I wanted to update the site by    saying our first work day was very successful        and on Saturday June 27 we will be finishing the project! I also just updated the goal due to some of the changes of the bridge and I greatly                appreciate everybody’s support!
