Eagle Scout Project: Bleeding Control Kits in Westfield, NJ
Donation protected
Hi! I'm Emma Blaustein, a Scout from Troop 72 in Westfield, New Jersey, currently working toward earning my Eagle Scout rank — the highest achievement in Scouting. As part of this journey, I’m launching a service project designed to make a lasting, life-saving impact on our community.
For my Eagle Project, I am partnering with the Stop the Bleed initiative to install bleeding control kits in Westfield’s public parks.
In a traumatic bleeding incident, every second counts: without aid, a person can bleed out in 5 minutes. These injuries can happen anywhere — on the playground, on a bike ride, in a car — and having kits like these bridges the critical gap between the moment of injury and the arrival of emergency responders. These kits will be placed in Tamaques and Brightwood Parks, where it would take EMTs about 8 minutes to respond to an accident. This project would empower bystanders with the tools and instructions to act quickly and save lives.
Stop The Bleed was founded by the American College of Surgeons and the United States Department of Defense to train the American public to treat traumatic bleeding injuries. Uncontrolled bleeding is the #1 cause of preventable death from trauma, which is the leading cause of death for Americans aged 1-46. It's considered responsible for over 35% of pre-hospital deaths, taking the lives of 60,000 Americans per year. Half of these deaths are preventable.
My fundraising goal of $900 will cover:
- Bleeding control kits
- Construction materials
- Concrete and installation
Any contribution, big or small, brings us one step closer to a safer, more prepared community. I am deeply grateful for your support and can’t wait to begin installing these life-saving stations once the goal is met!
Any funds past $700 will go towards Stop The Bleed and restocking the kits in the future to ensure this project can continue to serve the Westfield community for years to come.
