Hi Everyone,

My name is Lukas and I am asking for funds for my Eagle Scout Project. I've enjoyed so many aspects of my journey, and I am excited to start on my final project that will let me finally complete the rank of Eagle Scout.

For my project, I decided to approach an organization I have been working with for the last three years, the Austin Animal Center. As a volunteer and kitten foster at AAC, I had experience helping out and knew they would probably need something done. One of the things they asked for was a small garden area where they could grow fruits and veggies to feed their small critters, such as rabbits, gerbils, and hamsters. It would also give staff and volunteers a place where they can take a break away from the animals.

With this information, I came up with a plan for a raised garden bed area built out of cinder blocks. Cinder blocks are easy to put in place, sturdy, and heavy enough to stay in place. Currently, I plan to make two 11' by 5' and two 16' by 5' garden beds, measured by exterior. The actually growing area of each bed would be somewhat smaller. For soil, I plan to use a blend of compost and higher-quality garden soil. The space will allow the staff and volunteers at AAC a large outdoor space to garden and relax while creating a more varied diet for all the small critters that find themselves temporary residents.

I would love any and all support to make this project a success. IF you love animals, and you want to help make a difference in the lives of the many that go through the Austin Animal Center (as well as the adults that help take care of them), please share what you can and spread the words. All funds will go towards materials to create a functional space as well as providing rich healthy soil. Any donations that do not go towards this project will be given to AAC. Thanks!
