My name is William Hevener, a senior of Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. I have been involved in scouting since 3rd grade and I am now closing in on earning my Eagle Scout rank.
I have decided to follow in the footsteps of previous Troop 276 Eagle Scouts and complete my Eagle Scout project at Pt. Fermin Lighthouse.
I'm reaching out through this GoFundMe to help fund the construction of 24 stanchions (light weight but durable wooden barrier posts) that are attached together with rope to protect the displays at the Point Fermin Lighthouse. These stanchions will be strong enough to last for a long time but light enough for the volunteers at Pt. Fermin to move around so the displays are accessible during tours.
The Point Fermin Lighthouse has many valuable antiques in a series of displays on two different floors. It is very important that there be a barrier to stop curious visitors from touching and damaging the antiques. There currently are 24 stanchions in different parts of the Lighthouse connected with rope, but the current stanchions are either (1) too lightweight and have broken over time; or (2) extremely heavy metal posts that cannot be readily moved by the volunteers. This is a real problem and the volunteers have asked if someone could make new stanchions that all are the same and are both durable and light enough to be moved around so the volunteers can access the displays easily while also protecting the antiques.
Your contribution will make a lasting impact on both Ms. Kristen Heather (the Historic Site Curator/Director of Point Fermin Lighthouse) and the volunteers working at Pt. Fermin because not only would the new posts look nice (fitting in with the image of the lighthouse), but also they would be useful and much easier and time efficient for transporting and moving them around the Lighthouse.
Thank you for helping bring my project to life!
Funding Goal: Our target is $1,000 with any remaining funds being donated to Pt. Fermin Lighthouse.
