Eagle Scout Project at Caswell Landing
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Trace Hill. I am a Boy Scout with Troop 424 out of Kinston, North Carolina. Currently, I am a Life Scout working in my Eagle rank. One of the requirements to become an Eagle Scout is to plan, develop and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to my community. I have chosen to do some upgrades at Caswell Landing, at in Hookerton, North Carolina.
Caswell Landing is a campground that is under development. It is located in a great area on Contentnea Creek. My troop camped there earlier in the spring. While we thoroughly enjoyed camping there, I see the need for some upgrades to make the area more comfortable to everyone. I plan to clean the undergrowth and debris and sew some grass to provide more area for camping, playing and relaxing. I feel that sturdy lantern hooks will make using fuel powered lanterns more safe. When we camped there we had to place our lantern on the table. Getting it up off the ground and tables will make it less likely to tip over. Finally, I want to add rocks to the parking area. Currently there is one spot paved for handicapped persons. The rest of the parking area is dirt and grass. I feel that adding rocks to this area will keep the water from standing as much and also help it drain into the ditch better.
The Town of Hookerton has worked hard over the last years to improve their town and community to bring in business and visitors. By helping with their campground, I hope to provide more recreation options for the town. The campground is located on the creek which is a great area for kayaking and canoeing. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated and put directly toward these improvements.
