With the closure of on campus class for Eagle Rock Elementary and all of Los Angeles Unified School District 9 months ago, many of the meals that food insecure kids received have ceased. This has impacted some of the students in Kids Hope. Since last March, the Kids Hope team along with some generous donations, and the support CA have been able to provide meals to Kids Hope kids and their families twice a month.
The closure of Eagle Rock Elementary and all of LAUSD has gone on longer than anticipated, resulting in the need for funds to maintain this operation (which has never been part of the Kids Hope budget). Kassandra and I have volunteered to spearhead the endeavor moving forward. We want to continue to be able to feed and love on these 20 Kids Hope families as best we can.
As we begin to undertake this wonderful opportunity to serve, we wanted to fill you in and invite you to join us in supporting the Eagle Rock Elementary Kids Hope students. Supporting these families is a big task that will need the help of many! If you are interested in partnering with us here are three ways that you can help:
DONATE: First we need money to continue to feed these 20 families. We hope to be able to drop off a bag of food once every week to all 20 of these families from January 15th through Good Friday on April 2nd. That is 12 weeks of food bags. In order to do this, we need $650 every week. That is 12 weeks of $650 totaling $7800. If you would like to contribute to our goal of raising $7800 we have started a GoFundMe Account Here. (Or if you’re interested in grant-writing for this project let us know that too).
SHOP: The second way that you can partner in serving these Kids Hope families is by volunteering to physically pick up the groceries. In an attempt to maximize the food we are able to buy we will be primarily shopping at Costco, so if you have a membership and some time to spare we would love to have you buy food. We will reimburse you using the donated funds and will provide a shopping list, all you need to do is physically pick it up, and sort it into grocery bags.
DELIVER: In addition to buyers we are also in need of delivery folks. The final way that you can partner is delivering the food bags to the families. The deliveries will continue to happen on Friday mornings and nearly every family is in the Eagle Rock area, which makes for a short drive time. Up to this point there have been multiple drivers able to deliver so the 20 families have been divided into smaller groups. We are practicing healthy social distancing and have a set of guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety. We will provide you with the addresses and the food bags, you will need to complete the deliveries.
Whether or not you are willing and able to help in any of these areas we ask that you continue to pray for your KH student and all of the students/families that have been affected by this pandemic. Thank you!
