Eagle Project to benefit children's hospital
Donation protected
My name is Justin Lockner, I'm a Life Scout and a member of Troop 112 based in Carmel, Indiana. For the next step in my scouting journey, I must plan and manage a large-scale service project to benefit my community. How it benefits and what it entails is all up to me, as long as it really helps people and is for a cause I care about. So, I have chosen to make 100 fleece blankets for children admitted on an extended stay at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital.
Here is why this matters to me:
In 2014, my youngest brother was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. He spent around two years at Peyton Manning and received excellent care at the hands of wonderful human beings. Throughout his treatment, he was given many donations from the hospital to make his stay a more comforting and welcoming experience. By far, the most cherished gifts were the blankets that patrons of the community donated. Not only did they help keep him warm during the winter season, but they also served to bring color to his room. He kept them close to his person at all times until the end of his life in 2020. So, In memory of Evan, I want to spread the joy of the blankets he cherished to other kids going through similar battles.
The costs:
After determining the goals of my project, I started calculating the cost to carry this out. In total, I want to make 100 handmade blankets. Each blanket takes two sheets of fleece to make, with each sheet costing roughly $7. Therefore, to make 100 blankets, it will cost around $1400. With additional costs for labels on the blankets and food and water for volunteers helping me make the blankets, my calculated total is $1750. If it costs less than I expected or I raise more than my goal, all extra proceeds will go directly to the hospital. Any amount of support is greatly appreciated.
