Eagle Project- Solar Walk

Hi everyone,

My name is Ryan, and I am a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 2, based in Alameda. I am raising money to fund my Eagle Project: a Solar Walk along the Bay Farm Island Loop Trail and Shoreline Park. The Solar Walk will present information about our solar system, its planets, and act as trail distance markers to both educate our community and promote outdoor activities.

This project is really important for me not only because it completes one of the biggest accomplishments in my life–obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout Rank–but because I love to be outdoors. I grew up riding and running along this trail and exploring Alameda’s parks.

This park is an amazing place to explore! It is located along the Alameda shoreline and overlooks the Bay and the San Francisco skyline! With this project, I hope to share my love for the outdoors with my community, encourage people to get outside and enjoy the sun, and even learn something about our Solar System. I am currently working with Alameda Parks and Recreation Department (ARPD), the Community of Harbor Bay Isle Owners’ Association, Inc. (CHBIOA), Chabot Space and Science Center, and the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) to ensure this project's success. I expect that this project will be used by people and students, not just in my immediate neighbourhood but throughout Alameda.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, I will not be able to complete this project without financial support. A donation of any amount will help me achieve my vision and bring this Solar Walk to Alameda. If you cannot donate to this project, you can still help! Other ways to support my project include posting my GoFundMe page on your social media, spreading the word to your friends and family, or making connections with corporate or non-profit entities who may be interested in sponsoring my project.

All proceeds raised will be used to build and install the Solar Walk: create the custom signs for the sun and each planet and purchase the supports and foundation for each plaque. Any remaining proceeds will benefit the Alameda Parks and Recreation Department (ARPD).
