My Eagle project at Carlmont High School is complete! I’ve been planning the project for many months and during the weekend of May 17-18, we cleared, landscaped and installed 2 benches and a side table to improve a space students and staff walk by every day.
Members of Troop 27, friends, and family donated their time to help me complete the project. I also purchased the materials: 2 benches, a side table, mulch, concrete, and wood. I’m now raising funds to cover the cost of the project.
If you’re able to donate, it would help cover the costs of the materials. Any amount is appreciated.
Project Recap:
Day 1 – May 17 @ Carlmont High School
We cleared out old mulch and dug holes for the concrete footings. Using stakes, we leveled the wooden forms and mixed concrete and water directly in the holes. While that was setting, other scouts dug a trench to install plastic edging, giving the area a clean border. We finished the day by smoothing out the concrete.
Day 2 – May 18
We came back to remove the rest of the topsoil, laid down a weed barrier, and staked it into place. We then poured and evenly spread fresh mulch over the entire area. To cap it off, we led a school-wide trash cleanup and painted decorative rocks, placing them around a tree to brighten the space.
Final Touches
Since the concrete wasn’t fully cured, my dad (Mr. Vignoles) and I returned that Friday to drill in the benches and add the final mulch around them. Teachers and staff walking by regularly stopped to say how much they appreciated the new look.
Thank you for reading, and thank you to the many volunteers who came out and made this project happen!
