Eagle Project - Repaving an existing walking path
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Christopher Huynh, and I am from Boy Scout Troop 405 Pleasant Hill. I am a junior at College Park High School. My scouting journey started when I entered middle school. I am a Life Scout working towards the highest rank in Boy Scouts, Eagle scout. To achieve Eagle, I must plan, organize, and lead a service project for my community.
My project is to repave an existing walking path at Buddha Gate Monastery in Lafayette, where my family has been actively involved in the past 16 years. I chose this as my project because I felt it would benefit more visitors and practitioners to do walking meditation in the lower level behind Chan Hall if the path is flatter and more stable. This way, the Bodhi kids/youth class can utilize the space for class activities.
When I joined Boy Scouts 6 years ago, I had no idea the impact it would have on my life. Within scouts, I’ve made friends that are more like brothers and gained knowledge and experience that will last a lifetime. Boy Scout has allowed me to learn and utilize youth leadership for others in my community. In conjunction with being around the Monastery with my family, I grew up to become aware of myself and others. Hoping to benefit others the right way.
The funds raised for this Eagle project will be used towards purchasing materials and renting equipment to remove the existing path, saving as many pavers as possible, and digging down deeper so there will be gravel and sand for the new path. Paver edging will be installed, gravel and sand leveled, and the pavers will be aligned to create a fresh new look for the meditation path around the Buddha Statue.
Buddha Gate Monastery is the beneficiary of this project. Any leftover unused funds raised in this fundraiser will be entirely handed over to Buddha Gate Monastery as a general donation from everyone who made this project possible. I am excited to have made it to this point and can’t wait to help the monastery complete this project.
Thank you!
