Hi, my name is Charles Rust, a scout from Troop 44, and my Eagle Scout Project will be for the playground out at Tekesta Park. At the playground, there are two picnic benches that are decaying and becoming unusable. The benches are made of wood and are becoming brittle and weak due to years of withstanding the weather. For my project, I will be relocating the old benches by the playground area in Tekesta park and replacing them with new composite material benches. The old benches will be moved to another area at the park determined by the beneficiary. The composite material of the new benches is made from recycled plastics and wood waste. The composite material is more resistant to outdoor conditions like rain and sun damage than wooden benches would be. These new benches will last the park a very long time and will help decrease overall waste from the park. I will use concrete to hold them into the ground to prevent them from being stolen, moved by high winds, and damaged. The benches will not need any upkeep other than the occasional spray down from a hose which is minimal compared to the upkeep of wooden benches. The benches will benefit the community by providing seating for local families who use the playground and for events that are held at the park. This will help encourage people to use our local parks and facilities and engage with the outdoors.
