Qualls Family

This spring, Cassandra “Cassy” Qualls became a single mother of three: Blakely (6), Rory (3) and Teddy (<1). She is faced with the incredibly challenging situation of raising and caring for her children while also financially providing for them.

If you know Cassy, you know what a sweet soul she is. She is a gentle, loving, selfless individual. She is a faithful, tireless and caring mother. All children should be so fortunate to have a mother with the heart and dedication of Cassy Qualls.

These past months, Cassy has done an incredible job of rebuilding her world and calibrating to life as a single mother. She has applied for and worked several jobs. She now works a full-time position and is doing everything in her power to support herself and her children. And despite the uphill battle she has faced, she has refrained from seeking financial assistance.

However, Cassy’s income isn’t quite enough to make ends meet at the moment. During these trying months, she has exhausted her savings. Without intervention, she would be forced to sell her home. Keeping the home is paramount to Cassy as it is one of the few remaining sources of stability and security for her children during this precarious time.

We are asking for your help, financial or otherwise so that Cassy can achieve the following three goals:

1) Basement remodel
2) Pay off and/or privately finance HELOC
3) Pay off her SUV

Basement remodel. Cassy’s home has an unfinished basement with a separate exterior entrance. A basement remodel would allow Cassy to rent this space and the additional monthly income would allow Cassy to keep her home. We will be working hard to provide Cassy with as much donated or discounted labor and materials as possible for this project. Your donations will cover the cost of labor and materials that we aren’t able to get donated. We will begin actively recruiting for this project very soon. Please reach out if you work in the trades and would be willing to donate your efforts.

HELOC. At the beginning of 2022, Cassy and her then husband took out a home equity line of credit in order to complete some major renovations on their home. At that time, Cassy could not have anticipated the maelstrom that she was heading into nor the loss of her husband’s income. She currently has a $76,000 balance on her HELOC at an interest rate of prime + 4.5%. With the prime interest rate currently so high – 8.5% as of the time of this posting – this equates to an effective rate of 13% or a $823.33 monthly payment in interest only. And this is in addition to her monthly mortgage payment. This is a huge monthly debt obligation for her. Ideally, we are looking to pay off this debt in full and any donation you make will be greatly appreciated. Alternatively, we are seeking individuals that would be willing to privately hold all or part of this loan at low-or-no interest.

Pay off SUV. Cassy’s SUV currently has approximately $13,500 outstanding and comes with a monthly payment that we would love to alleviate Cassy of.

So many of you have followed along with Cassy’s story and have asked how you can help. This is your opportunity.
