Hi, my name is Nancy Morris and I'm an adult survivor of sibling sexual abuse (SSA) and the host of the #SiblingsToo podcast.

I'm also the founder of the International #SiblingsToo Day on 15 April 2023.

SSA is the child sexual abuse you've probably never heard of but need to know about in order to protect your children.

SSA is thought to be the most common form of sexual abuse in the family at a rate 3+ times higher than parent-to-child. It knows no boundaries of gender both in the child harmed and the one causing the harm. It also happens in different family structures like biological, blended, and step. It is oblivious to race, religion, social position, socioeconomic status, country, or continent. It is everywhere.

Yet no one is talking about it.

We all like to think those who cause sexual harm are all scary predators and that nothing like this could happen in our own homes and family. International research consistently reflects the sad reality that, conservatively, 5% of kids aged 5-18 are being harmed by SSA. Another 4-5% are the ones causing the harm. So, potentially, 9% of the kids in your community are either sexually harmed or causing harm, in their own home, with a sibling.

Today.

And that harm can destroy the entire family. Those immediately involved often experience lifelong impacts like addiction issues, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, PTSD, self-harm, and suicide. Others in the family are also vulnerable to family breakups or, at the very least, disintegration of safety in the family unit. And parents are rocked to their core by the knowledge that one of their children was sexually harmed by another one of their kids.

Of course, that type of family devastation also affects communities and society as a whole.

When it comes to any form of sexual abuse, people don’t really know how to get involved to help survivors and/or prevent it in the first place. Yet with SSA, the fastest ways to help are also the simplest.

Parents must start learning about it and society must start talking about it. You see, the longer SSA is hidden in the shadows with secrecy and silence, the longer it will continue unabated. Parents won’t know about it, governments won’t be compelled to do anything about it, and society as a whole won’t care about it.

I'm writing to ask for your help by supporting the first Annual International #SiblingsToo Day on Saturday, 15 April 2023. With the help of a small but mighty global team of volunteers, the event is breaking the silence of SSA by sharing science and stories from professionals and lived experience experts.

Just like the world needed to talk about #MeToo and topics like sexual abuse in the church and sports, it needs to talk about #SiblingsToo. Outside of the abuse itself, secrecy and societal silence create the most harm.

By supporting this event, your donation - no matter how small - will help us reach our goal of educating parents and the public on this issue. With your help, we can make a real difference in the lives of families and communities, now and in the future.

A $300 donation helps us add a press release to the local distribution services in the different global time zones.

A $100 donation can go towards the software needed for live streaming to large groups.

A $50 donation will help with marketing expenses and creating a resource/information pack for parents and families.

A $20 donation boosts a social media post for a week.

Even $10 may not sound like much but it will make a big difference in creating this global event.

Please support the first Annual International #SiblingsToo Day. Your generosity will make a lasting impact on the lives of so many. To learn more, visit our website at www.SiblingsToo.com.

The world needs to be talking about it. Please help us to do that.

Any money raised over our target will be saved for the next event.

Thank you for your support!

Nancy
