Royal Marsden Cancer Charity

Hi, my name is Kate and in March 2023, my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. On the 30th September, I am planning to walk a half marathon (22km) to raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with 52,000 men being diagnosed every year in the UK. That’s 143 men a day. My Dad, Paul, was diagnosed while part of a trial he applied for being carried out with the Royal Marsden Hospital. The Royal Marsden opened its doors in 1851 as the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education. Together, The Royal Marsden and its principle academic partner, the Institute of Cancer Research are ranked in the top five cancer centres in the world for the impact of their research, treating over 59,000 NHS and private patients every year.  Trials being conducted, like the trial my Dad entered, are changing lives and constantly working to find new information on all Cancers. As my Dad will be having his treatment via the Royal Marsden and they have been an incredible support so far, we have decided to raise money for their Cancer Charity. By funds raised by supporters of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, they were the first NHS hospital in the country to introduce the da Vinci S surgical robot. It’s amazing to know what a difference your money can make. If you can donate any money, no matter how small, I would be so grateful. To know we can help change lives and give support to family like ours and enable more research to be carried out, is helping bring something positive to focus on in a hard time. This is for you Dad, we got this.
