Hi! My name is Lucy McInnes, and I am a 17-year-old student at Matthew Flinders Anglican College. As a part of fundraising for our school charity of the year, Bloomhill Cancer Care, I will be donating over 23cm of my hair.
This cause is especially important to me, as in October of last year, my younger brother was diagnosed with AML leukemia. For the past 6 months, Kaden has undergone treatment at Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane. His treatment required him to remain in the hospital during his month-long chemo rounds with short stays at home in between. Thankfully, his cancer is now in remission and he returned to school this month.
While a difficult time for my family, one thing that stood out was the community that rallied behind us - from friends and family members, our school community, the amazing doctors and nurses at the hospital, and the support of charities like Bloomhill.
Bloomhill is a local Sunshine Coast charity that supports cancer patients and their families in everything from medical treatment to adjusting to life while in remission.
By cutting my hair, I hope to raise money to help Bloomhill continue to support families such as my own. Through donating my hair to make wigs for people going through cancer, I hope to help bring them some sense of normalcy as they undergo treatment.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, is so appreciated. Thank you so much for helping to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.
