Our baby Dylan on his cancer journey

Hi Guys

This is Dylan, my three year old nephew.  
He has a twin sister Summer and an older sister Mia aged five.

 

As a parent, I can say, it's every parents worst nightmare to have a sick child but to learn they have cancer is devastating. Words can't describe how our world has been turned up side down with no warning signs, no indication at all that we were facing anything so serious.
This was a complete shock, overnight our little angle Dylan was a cancer patient.

 

On the 4th of October 2021 Dylan was admitted to hospital.

On the 22nd Oct he was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of cancer which mainly effects children. Each year only around 5-10 children in Ireland are diagnosed with this. So it’s a rare type of cancer.

Dylan started Chemotherapy on the 28th if November and is on a 3 week cycle for 6 months, so he spends 3 days as an inpatient in Crumlin hospital

and then has one day as an outpatient on both of the other weeks. So he's in every week at least once. He will also need to go abroad for a specific therapy either proton or brachytherapy but most likely proton in Germany. Proton therapy usually lasts 6-8 weeks so its a lengthy time to be away from home with the family.

The treatment itself is covered thankfully but my brother and his wife have to cover living expenses , flights for the other children and one parent.

My brother has had to give up work to be Dylan’s full time career as it’s a full time job looking after a very sick Dylan and his 2 sisters.

 

Dylan was a very happy , healthy and fun loving little boy. We just want to get him back to that place running around dressed as spider man annoying his two sisters.
