Urgent Help Needed for Safe Housing and Medical Care

Hello, I am a non-binary trans person who has been on the edge of houselessness since 2021. During COVID, my ex and I had to move out, and since then, I have traveled across the country to keep a roof over my head thanks to the kindness of friends. However, the place that my current partner and I are living in is not safe.

We knew moving in that the condition of the house was questionable, but upon moving in, we found that the house was covered in black mold as well as a roof that was falling apart. We were told shortly after that the stability of the floor in certain areas was also questionable. Thankfully, nothing has happened there. We knew the move was temporary, and at the time, we were focused on saving to move out.

Life had other ideas. I was working at Walmart, and in 2024, at the time, my hands were giving me trouble, and I had gone out on medical leave. At the same time, I found out I had issues with arthritis in my knee and potential carpal tunnel. Due to our limited medical options in our area and no car, I was unable to pursue necessary medical treatments to further investigate my hands.

While I was out, my partner, who has Crohn's, had to undergo an ileocecectomy. I also had a medical emergency that ended me in the ER, where I found out that I have fibromuscular dysplasia in a carotid artery. This could be a contributing factor to my high blood pressure. This was the start of my medical journey.

Since then, not only do I deal with high blood pressure, I found out that I had a mass on my adrenal gland, bone spurs in my knee and upper spine, deteriorating disks, hypermobility spectrum disorder, I deal with a heavy case of stress incontinence, and am currently pursuing sleep studies to investigate potential sleep apnea. I am also undergoing treatment for obesity.

This made it so that I was unable to work since 2025. That is when things started to get tense with my roommates, understandably. I was unable to pay rent, and while my girlfriend does bring in a little amount of money each month by editing videos, it was not enough for rent. My roommates gave us a bit of a grace period, but it had become more and more tense over time.

In late 2025, I was able to find our next place to go. This time it would be a much more solid situation, but due to the Big Beautiful Bill, we lost our SNAP benefits because working was not an option for me, even if my doctor felt it was at the time. This has since changed. At the time, I also started to pursue SSI disability.

I was able to get my medical assistance and SNAP back in order early 2026, but we were behind on other payments and still trying to pay something into rent. We finally had a target move date of early July. I had my final appointments scheduled to wrap everything up, and in February, I started to get the tests done to investigate the adrenal mass for activity.

The adrenal mass has been in a state of limbo. Every test puts me just under or just over the minimum line, and it isn't a procedure we want to rush into if we can preserve the gland. There is no option to just test the gland for cancer with a needle. I could go on and on with everything that has been told to me, but the short answer is that removal is safer if it is active than poking the mass to see if it is cancer. I am currently scheduled for more testing to check levels of certain hormones on 4/24.

We have everything else in line, but given our strict fixed income and need to supplement food as the food I need to eat for my diet is expensive, we are looking at only a few hundred dollars to move on.

I wasn't going to pursue asking for help beyond doing a stream donothon with some friends of mine in May. However, as of today, 4/18, I received a message from my roommate stating that a 'concerning development' had happened, and they would have to be spending most of the money they had in savings, and that would leave them in a position that they will no longer be able to cover the extra costs such as electricity, water, and oil, of having us here.

We need to be able to afford this move. Not only will this put us in a safer position, but we will be in an area that is in a city so that health care is easier to access, as well as only a 30ish minute ride from the closest major area, rather than nearly an hour.
