Volunteer Abroad: South Africa
Donation protected
As many of you know, my dad passed away back in 2001. A few summers ago, I went through his trunk of things he had collected from his adventures. It was filled with his first passport, journals and stamp collection, jewels (stolen? Smuggled?), and a note that read, "Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself.” And it has inspired and stuck with me ever since. My dad backpacked all around the globe, he explored Europe, Australia, and Asia. My dream has always been to follow in his footsteps and see the world, to start my own adventure, meet thousands of people and learn from them, make a lifetime of memories, and most importantly, make a positive impact on the world. This year, I was lucky enough to run into a volunteer abroad opportunity, the International Student Volunteer Abroad Program (ISV). This summer, I am heading to South Africa with this volunteer program where, for five weeks, I will take part in ISV's commitment to education and development of the underprivileged children in Africa, community development, and protect endangered species with rescue wildlife projects, such as surveying African animals and habitats. As always, finances are an issue. With your help, I’ll be able to take on this amazing opportunity. Thank you so much for supporting my mission to leave my footprint on the world and as the note read, "Find myself."
