DuBois Family Support After House Fire
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Genevieve! I started this to raise a bit of money to help out myself and my family buy some new clothes and food after a fire destroyed our home and everything inside. Myself, boyfriend, son, and grandmother all share the home together. We have insurance and have started the long process of getting their help. In the mean time however, the only things we have are the clothes on our back, 2 paintings and some silver the firefighters were able to grab for us. The cause of the fire is unknown, but whatever it was has caused a lot of damage. It started with the first fire at around 2p February 1st. They cleared it out, said we were safe to go in the downstairs area and even walk upstairs, but to be careful as the damage upstairs left everything black and covered in ash and soot. We left home for a hotel around 7p after everything was said and done. We ate dinner, I went to walmart to get a few basic necessities, as at this point, mine and my boyfriends belongings were the only things absolutely destroyed. I went back to our house around 1130p to put some food out for our cat, who is still unfortunately missing, and I walked around the neighborhood some, calling his name and shaking treats. I went back to the hotel and around 2am, after resting and trying to wind down for 2 hours in the hopes of falling asleep, one of neighbors called to say our home had caught fire again. There was no sign of anything starting up in the short time I was there looking for our cat. The house is completely destroyed, between the fire damage (which melted our neighbors siding it burned so hot) and the water damage from the hoses trying to put it all out. This has been some terrible nightmare that I know we won't wake up from. One fire was bad enough, but to have it happen twice in one day.. it's been unbelievable. Our home may be broken, but our spirits are not. No one was injured during either of the fires, which is the most important thing. Thank you to the friends and family that have already reached out and offered their support, and for those just taking the time to read our story. Please keep us in your thoughts. We won't give up.
