Update: 16 June - Wow, mission accomplished! By working together towards a goal this community can achieve so much! Donations above and beyond the goal will go towards blocks and lines that have been damaged and are in need of replacement.

We all hold the Downtown Sailing Center (DSC) near and dear to our hearts, it offers so much for the community at little to no cost. The DSC however occasionally struggles to hold on, and so do its members, as a result of the deterioration of its aging day fleet. The teak handrails on all J/22 cabin tops have been identified as a safety issue and show their age with a substantial wiggle, exposed screws with sharp edges, and concerning creaks while under load. All donations will be matched up to 10% by an anonymous donor.

We have identified two varied cost solutions to this problem:

1. Replace with OEM stainless steel handrails manufactured by White Water Marine at their dealer rate (86 USD/handrail)

2. Replace with teak handrails manufactured by WHITECAP, and sold by West Marine at their bulk dealer rate (33 USD/handrail)

Refit a complete boat for only ~190 USD!

Additional costs are allocated to stainless steel mounting hardware, backing plates, and consumables which will be sourced from McMaster Carr or similar.

Your donations will go a long way in supporting this safety-focused effort in rejuvenating the fleet. This fundraiser will also test and hopefully, prove the viability of a goal/item-oriented crowdsourcing model for use at the DSC.
