My Background:
Hi, my name is Ruby Tang. I am a Grade 12 student at Steveston-London Secondary School in Richmond (SLSS), BC, Canada. I’ve loved drawing and design since I was young. As I got older, I started to see how design can be more than just art—it can also help bring people together and support good causes in the community.

This gofundme campaign is part of my Capstone Project at Steveston-London Secondary School. The idea came from Richmond City Council’s decision to open a supervised drug consumption site. While my family disagrees with this decision and many of my friends feel uneasy about it, I understand the importance of supporting those who struggle with drug use. At the same time, I noticed a lack of education in schools about the risks and harms of different types of drugs. That’s when I realized I could do something—no matter how small—to help raise awareness about drug prevention and recovery.

For my Capstone Project, I combined my passion for art and design with drug prevention awareness. I created original characters and visuals, refining over 30 sketches into four final pieces, and used a laser engraving machine to bring them to life. To engage the school community, I partnered with the Japanese Cultural Club, gave a short presentation, and invited members to write pledges on my engraved wood pieces. Beyond school, I attended a roundtable hosted by the Responsible Drug Learning Association, where I met local leaders and deepened my understanding of drug prevention, reinforcing my commitment to using art for social change.

From Awareness to Action: Fundraising for a Cause ...
As the final part of my project, I am raising funds to support both drug prevention education and addiction recovery. I believe that helping individuals overcome addiction and preventing it through education are equally important. All proceeds from my Capstone Project will be donated: 50% to Richmond General Hospital for addiction treatment and 50% to the Responsible Drug Learning Association, a local non-profit dedicated to drug prevention and education.

Donations are not required—I truly believe in the power of education! If my story resonates with you or you support the message of preventive drug education, please help by sharing this page or my website with your friends and community. Spreading awareness is just as important in making a difference. Of course, if you're able to donate, your support would be greatly appreciated!
