Hi, I'm Jayne Pomplas — and in March 2026, I’ll be embarking on a unique overland journey from Ireland to Algeria, delivering donated musical instruments to a refugee camp where I’ll be volunteering as a music teacher.
The camp, located in the Tindouf region of Algeria, is home to thousands of Sahrawi refugees, displaced from their homeland in Western Sahara for nearly five decades. These communities live in extremely challenging conditions, and music can provide a powerful outlet for expression, healing, and cultural resilience.
I’m partnering with the UK-based charity Sandblast, which has been working with Sahrawi refugees since 2005, empowering young people through arts and creative education. I'll be contributing to their Studio-Live project, helping young Sahrawis gain access to instruments and music training.
Why I'm Fundraising
This journey is entirely self-initiated and unfunded. While the instruments have been generously donated, I’m personally covering all the travel and transport costs — and that’s where I’m asking for your support.
Your donation will help cover:
Fuel and tolls across multiple countries
Ferry crossings to North Africa
Food and basic accommodation along the route
Permits and border logistics
Safe transport and packaging of instruments
What Your Support Means
Every euro donated brings me closer to delivering these instruments into the hands of young people who need them most. Your support will help spark creativity, connection, and joy in a community too often forgotten by the world.
If you’re unable to donate, you can still support by sharing this campaign — every bit helps.
Thank you so much for reading and for being part of this mission.
With gratitude,
Jayne Pomplas
